DIY Glitter Wine Glasses

My mom & dad are huge wine fanatics! Me, being a huge craft fanatic, decided to give a few of their wine glasses a makeover. It's easier than easy, takes no time at all, & makes a big, glittery difference!

                                                                   Here's what you need:

  • Wine Glass(es)
  • Loose Glitter
  • Paintbrush
  • Mod Podge (I used gloss finish)
  • Something to cover your work area (towel, etc..it gets pretty messy)

First, paint the bottom of the glass using your Mod Podge. Technically, you can paint anywhere you want glitter to be. I do not paint the top of the glass, because I personally wouldn't want my mouth on glitter and Mod Podge...
After getting a decent coat of the Mod Podge on the glass, generously sprinkle glitter all over it. You can tap the glass on the towel a few times to get the access glitter off as well.
...And that's pretty much it!
After you let the glitter set for a few minutes, you can go over it with another coat of Mod Podge, juuuust to make sure it sticks nicely (:

  1. Hey there. I love this idea and was wondering if it would be dishwasher safe at all or if you know how well it stays with washing it by hand?

    1. I haven't tried them in the dishwasher because I was too scared! But with the mod podge coat over top they were fine when hand washed carefully.

    2. There is a dishwasher safe version of mod podge. I haven't tried it yet though.

    4. The dishwasher safe works! It’s just rough and you have to wait 30 days for it to cure.

    1. I realize this is an old post, but for anyone who might just now be seeing this...make sure you are using a modge podge that has a shiny finish. If you use original modge podge or the matte finish then the glitter won't sparkle anymore. Hope that helps someone!

  4. I heard that if you use triple thick it gives it a nice smooth coaing also. I am waiting for some triple thick to come so I can try this.

    1. Yes, definitely put triple thick on as the top coat. It takes a few coats and make sure you let it dry in between 24 hours. But after a few coats you will have a smooth finish and won't loose glitter when washing.

  7. I've tried the glossy mod podge and the finish is not as glittery. But I'm now looking to buy deco patch gold tub as that's supposed to keep it glittery.

  8. I know that this is Old but I was just Surfing thru crafting blogs and I came across yours and I have to say that I used the same Modpog that you are using and I had to Wait about 2-Hrs for my glasses to Dry before I could add a second coat Bcuz I tried it your way and the glitter and the Modpog was coming completely off the glass and the glass doesn't come out as Shiny when you're all done

  11. First of all I love using Mod Podge but I have had a serious problem with my glitter holding its shine after I use the mod podge as a sealant, it actually makes the glitter look very dull and I al using the gloss mod podge. Please help.

  12. I use modge podge on my wine glasses, some I did a clear spray over the first layer then wait over night and modge podge glitter then a clear shining coat on top dishwasher safe. I don't go all the way to the top either.
